On Friday, January 26, 2024, AZAGC elected its board of directors and executive committee.  Serving on the executive committee as chair of the board is Steve Campbell of Pulice Construction, immediate past chair Stan Driver of Kiewit Infrastructure West, first vice chair Tom Drysdale of DBA Construction and Matt Carpenter of Haydon Building Corp. was selected as second vice chair.  Tony Hakes of CBIZ Mayer Hoffman McCann, P.C. was selected as treasurer and Robert Roos, of Lewis Roca is general counsel.

About the Executive Committee:

Steve Campbell is Senior Vice President and Arizona Region Manager of Pulice Construction, Inc.  Based in Phoenix, he has overall management responsibility for the Arizona Region including safety, construction, and estimating.  He joined Pulice in 1995 and has held positions including Operations Manager (for both Pulice and McNeil Brothers), Project Manager, and Engineer.  Under Steve’s leadership, the Arizona Region has completed diverse projects throughout the state in water, wastewater, and transportation market sectors including highway, road, pump station, and underground work.  Steve serves as a management trustee for the Operating Engineers pension fund, health, and welfare fund, and vacation fund, and Laborers health and welfare, vacation, and training fund.  He also serves on the Carpenter’s Labor and Management Cooperation Committee. Steve holds a B.S. in Engineering from Texas A & M University and an M.S. in Construction Management from Arizona State University.

Stan Driver is a Sr. Vice President for Kiewit Infrastructure West with geographical responsibilities across Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Idaho.  Stan began his career with Morrison Knudsen and joined Kiewit in 1996.  He has worked for Kiewit’s Southern California, Eastern Canada and Southwest districts.  He is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego.

Tom Drysdale is the Founder and President of DBA Construction, Inc. He is a native of Arizona and has been in the heavy civil construction industry for over 40 years. Tom has managed a successful business at DBA Construction since its inception in 1996, serving various markets including: Irrigation & Flood Control, Power Generation & Transmission, Mining & Industrial, Transportation and Recreation. Based in Phoenix, AZ; Tom has overall management responsibility of all fieldwork operations, project management, estimating and the overall administrative functions of the company. Tom is proud to have served on the Board of Directors for AZAGC for 5 years.  Tom has a Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture from the University of Arizona.

Matt Carpenter, Chief Operating Officer of Haydon Companies, is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the company’s operations to ensure efficiency, profitability, and sustainable growth. He plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, implementation of policies, and driving operational excellence across various departments within Haydon. Matt joined Haydon in 2000 as an intern and has worked his way diligently up to his current role. He is focused on providing the company with operational strategy and planning, process improvement and efficiency, team leadership and management, financial management as well as risk management and compliance. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Sciences from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University.

Tony Hakes leads the National Construction Industry Services Group for CBIZ & Mayer Hoffman McCann, P.C. and is the Attest Practice Leader for the Phoenix office. Tony has served a variety of clients including general contractors, heavy/civil contractors, sub/specialty contractors, homebuilders, and real estate developers. He has provided consultation to clients on various accounting and reporting issues including revenue recognition, joint ventures, variable interest entities, interest capitalization, indirect cost allocation, and evaluation of change orders and claims. Tony has also attained the designation as a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP).  Tony has a Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting, from Iowa State University.

Robert Roos practices construction law and commercial litigation at the Phoenix office of Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP and co-chairs the firm’s Construction Practice Group.  He has been recognized as a top Arizona attorney by Best Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell, and Southwest Super Lawyers.  Robert represents and provides counsel to general contractors, civil constructors, subcontractors, suppliers and owners on project and claim issues and in a wide variety of construction disputes and litigation.  He served as Chair of the Construction Law Section of the State Bar of Arizona and is a member of Arizona Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry.  Robert served as the public member of the Arizona Board of Technical Registration from 2002 to 2008.  Robert has a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Arizona and a JD from UC Berkeley School of Law.
