AZAGC has received this letter and memo detailing Chuck Huckelberry’s plan to increase the sales tax by one-half cent to fund pavement preservation, reconstruction and repairs and maitenance of roads.  In his letter he states, “We have ignored this problem for too long, and we have failed to face reality regarding how best to fund our transportation system and make critical repairs to that system.”

The plan calls for one-half cents sales tax increase.  Half the money would be used to pay for road repairs and reconstruction.  The other half would be used to reduce property taxes.  The plan is expected to raise $76 million in its first fiscal year of implementation FY2015/16.  It would need unanimous support from the board of supervisors.  AZAGC sources have statede that two supervisors are opposed to the plan.
